3rd February 2017

This week we transition from January to the second month of the calendar. Both months were introduced onto the Roman calendar by Numa Pompilous, when the calendar was extended from ten to twelve months. February comes from the word ‘februa’ – which means cleansing or purification. For Christians the month contains Candlemas day where traditionally candles were brought into church and blessed.

In education it is a pivotal time for those facing examinations in the summer term. It can be a particularly intense time for both students and teachers. Since my time at St. Clement’s, it never ceases to amaze me how this dedicated team of staff members provide quality learning experiences for young learners here.

However in February we still have cold days and long nights ahead and with that in mind I would like to leave you with this quote from Sudie Stuart Hager:

"He knows no winter, he who loves the soil,

For, stormy days, when he is free from toil,

He sees in snow and sleet and icy rain,

Precious moisture for his early grain.”

Have a great month!
