Free School Meals

Families are entitled to Free School meals if they are in receipt of the following benefits:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseeker Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit

By completing the form for Free School Meals, you will be helping your child's school in their application for additional Pupil Premium funding.

Children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 are automatically entitled to a free school meal. If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, and if you are in receipt of one of the above benefits, we recommend that you still apply. This will mean your child's school does not miss out on important funding. It may also mean your child will continue to receive free meals after the end of Year 2.

Children in Key stage 2 may still be entitled to a free school meal if the above list relates to their family. Every day children at St Clement’s are possibly missing out on their free school meal and therefore we encourage you to check your eligibility. It could save you money and ensure your child gets a nutritious hot meal every day- that’s worth £429. In addition, by claiming your free school meals you ensure that valuable additional funding of £1345 per pupil comes to the school to help us provide great resources and additional staff to support your child’s learning.

To claim a free school meal, ask at the office for an application form. Return the completed form to school, along with evidence to support your application.

During the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, free school meals eligibility has been temporarily extended to include some groups who have no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

This temporary extension is continuing and covers both pupils who are attending school and who are at home due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

See guidance for the temporary extension of free school meals eligibility to NRPF groups for more information.
